CloudPassage, Inc., a pioneering security SaaS provider, has joined the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), a not-for-profit organization with a mission to provide education and promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, and to provide education on the uses of Cloud Computing to help secure all other forms of computing.

"The CSA offers a fabulous wealth of information that educates people about the issues of security in the cloud," said Chris Brenton, cloud security architect at CloudPassage, who has participated in projects with CSA including document development.  "We are excited to push this educational effort forward and better educate people about how to resolve those issues."

Server-level security protection is critical in the cloud where front-line perimeter defenses are limited.  Customers deploying cloud infrastructure in many environments are largely on their own to protect themselves; strong and highly automated host-based controls are essential.

"Implementation of standards across vendors is a key need that our users ask about frequently," said Carson Sweet, co-founder and CEO of CloudPassage.  "The industry collaboration opportunities unlocked by the cloud computing evolution need a central nexus, and we're excited to participate with the CSA in helping create that nexus."

CloudPassage Halo is a security Software-as-a-Service built from the ground up to secure elastic cloud-server hosting environments by automatically delivering security visibility and controls when servers burst or are cloned.  Once security is set up on one server, all copies of that server created later will automatically inherit its security controls.  CloudPassage customers benefit from greatly reduced attack surfaces, lower risk of compromise and improved compliance.

The Cloud Security Alliance is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote the use of best practices for providing security assurance within Cloud Computing, and to provide education on the uses of Cloud Computing to help secure all other forms of computing. The Cloud Security Alliance is led by a broad coalition of industry practitioners, corporations, associations and other key stakeholders.

CloudPassage is a security SaaS company offering the industry's first and only server security and compliance solutions purpose-built for elastic cloud environments.  The company addresses the technical challenges of securing highly dynamic cloud hosting environments where consistent physical location, network control and perimeter security are not guaranteed.  The company's Halo cloud server security product offers high-accuracy server security configuration and vulnerability management, centralized management of host-based firewalls and server account auditing for Linux servers.  The innovative capabilities of the Halo platform operate across infrastructure models and seamlessly handle cloud server bursting, cloning, and migration.

Headquartered in San Francisco, Calif., CloudPassage is backed by Benchmark Capital.  Gartner, Inc. named CloudPassage one of four "Cool Vendors in Cloud Security Services, 2011."
