Extenua, Inc., a pioneering developer of enterprise software that simplifies and secures the use of cloud technologies, has announced that users of its SilverSHielD Secure Shell (SSH) and SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) server software are not vulnerable to the Heartbleed security bug that targeted OpenSSL-based systems.

Heartbleed is a security bug in the open-source OpenSSL cryptography library, which is widely used to implement the Internet's Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol. The bug creates security vulnerabilities for millions by allowing theft of servers' private keys, users' session cookies and passwords.

“SilverSHield was never impacted because the product does not rely on OpenSSL,” said Steve Visconti, CEO of Extenua. “It’s the right product for any organization that truly wants to protect its users’ data.”

SilverSHielD software allows users to create an easy-to-use, powerful and reliable SSH2 and SFTP server for the Windows operating system. SilverSHielD users can create a Payment Card Industry (PCI) or Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant file transfer system, backup Cisco UC platform, or simply and securely transfer files between different locations. It features SSH2 password, interactive and public-key authentication methods, fully supports forwarding tunnels and SFTP subsystem, along with state-of-the-art virtual folders management. The intuitive management console makes it extremely easy to configure and maintain fast, secure file transfers for organizations of all sizes, including those that must meet stringent compliance requirements.

SilverSHielD’s security features include Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) authentication with multiple keys per user, Active Directory integration, advanced user and virtual folder security rules. It’s powerful because it can automatically run scripts when certain events occur. Events can include zip files, send emails, perform custom authentication, and more.

“We have worked with a lot of vendors, but Extenua is by far one of the most diligent ones when it comes to listening to the customer and helping resolve specific issues as well as move the product forward,” said Mark Gimelfarb, at Chief Technical Officer at PrivacyStar, a leading smartphone application developer that works with Fortune 500 firms and many of the largest telecommunications providers that give users complete control of their smartphones.

SilverSHielD first shipped in 2008 and has already won 25 awards including an Editor’s Choice from Download Atlas and awards from Softoxi, and DownloadPipe. It was also shortlisted as a finalist in the DCS Awards in the DataCentre ICT Server Product of the Year category. Customers include IBM, Fujitsu, Boeing, Nokia, Sony, Toyota, Kaiser Permanente, US Bank and Motorola. It’s also used by government institutions, security agencies, other Fortune-500 companies, as well as thousands of small and medium businesses.

SilverSHielD 6.1 is available now. It can be up and running in minutes on Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista or Windows XP using an easy, intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) or command line interface. SilverSHielD is free for personal use. Enterprise pricing starts at just $199 for SilverSHielD Pro.
