McAfee, part of Intel Security, has announced that leading research firm Gartner, Inc. has positioned the company in the Leaders quadrant in its “Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways” as published on June 23, 2014. Gartner’s research examined leading companies offering Secure Web gateways (SWGs) that, “utilize URL filtering, advanced threat defense, legacy malware protection and application control technologies to defend users from Internet-borne threats, and to help enterprises enforce Internet policy compliance.”

“We believe our position in the leaders quadrant confirms that Intel Security (McAfee) continues to be a significant solution provider for companies seeking to secure themselves against Web-borne threats”

Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateways is based on an assessment of a company’s ability to execute and completeness of vision. Leaders in this quadrant are high-momentum vendors (based on sales and mind share growth) with established track records in SWGs, as well as with vision and business investments indicating that they are well-positioned for the future.

“We believe our position in the leaders quadrant confirms that Intel Security (McAfee) continues to be a significant solution provider for companies seeking to secure themselves against Web-borne threats,” said Pat Calhoun, general manager of the network security business unit at McAfee. “The McAfee Web Protection solution offers the advanced security, malware protection, application control, flexible deployment options and a lower total cost of ownership that organizations need in order to take full advantage of the Web without compromising the integrity of their network.”

McAfee Web Protection delivers comprehensive security for all aspects of Web traffic, regardless of location or device. For user-initiated Web requests, McAfee Web Gateway first enforces an organization’s Internet use policy. For all allowed traffic, it then leverages multiple real-time techniques, including McAfee Global Threat Intelligence, and signature-based and zero-day malware detection engines, to analyze the nature and intent of all content and active code entering the network via the requested Web pages, providing immediate protection against malware and other hidden threats. Integration with McAfee Advanced Threat Defense provides state-of-the-art sandboxing and static code analysis to find, freeze and fix even the most sophisticated malware attacks.
