According to the Department of Homeland Security, recent cyberattacks employing sophisticated Russian malware have targeted U.S. energy grid operators as well as major electricity providers in Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Poland. As a result of the increasing number of cyberthreats focused on this sector, a recent report on critical infrastructure cybersecurity indicated that 67 percent of critical infrastructure organizations “have had at least one security compromise that led to the loss of confidential information or disruption to operations” in the past year.
